Offered for sale is a M1881 Infantry spike helmet made by Horstmann Company Philadelphia Oct. 15, 1888 and so marked under the sweatband. Hat has the infantry side buttons and is complete with chin- strap and hat device on the front of the helmet. Helmet shows age and some storage wear but appears to me to have been an unissued and unused example that was never issued to the troops. These aren’t getting easier to find they are getting harder.
